Ask a respected attorney and don't take suggestions from an email list. This is your income for the rest of your life we are talking about.

Also, alimony is calculated differently in different states in the United States. That means that the figure won't be the same in Texas as it will in New York and that will be different in California, too. Ask an attorney.
Reply:you need to get out and get a job. just because you were married for 1 1/2 yrs doesnt mean he has to support you after divorce...he ows you nothing. GET A JOB DONT BE LAZY!!!!!!
Reply:If you are in the United States then you need to talk to an attorney in your state as laws vary. I do not think religion has anything to do with it. An attorney will be able to advise you on what is best for you. Do not get an attorney that will be more on your husbands side then yours though.
Reply:I don't know of a single state in the US that will award alimony with only 1.5yrs of marriage. And the courts won't care about Hindu law or customs.

She needs to get prepared to support herself before she bails out of the marriage.
Reply:Mutual consent, not "concent."

You need a tax expert. We don't have alimony where I live so I don't know how that works, but I don't think you can claim marriage expenses. If you have the kids, you get the exemption for them.
