I plan to get a new iMac sometime within the next year. Should I get one now or wait for an update?

I am working on a digital art major and I have a job working in digital art. My macbook is getting old and recently the back light stopped working, and I need to bring it in to get fixed. Price isn't an issue, I'm just worried that they might come out with a new line in the near future.

Christmas is always the best time to get a new computer. Thats when they offer the best deals, always...
Reply:If you need a new Mac don't wait for the next best thing - it will be a great machine for some time to come. The minute they are reseased they get one-uped in no time anyway.

No way to know for sure when new Macs are released but I'd say the iMac is well due for an upgrade. If you really mean "within the next year" as your time frame then I'd certainly wait if you don't mind - but not for a year though.

It is always the case when I buy a new Mac that it seems that a new, better model gets released. If you choose to wait until that great updated model to be released, then you could end up waiting quite a long time.

The World Wide Developer Conference is on June 8th thru June 12th this year. Wait till then if you can because thats when they may introduce a new iMac and/or iPhone. No guarantee though.

If no model is out by then go ahead and get the new Mac. But now that I said that, they'll probably come out with a new iMac in July or something.
